Ramesses I KV16

Despite the fact that this small tomb, the size of which is related to the pharaoh's brief reign, was never finished, it is decorated with paintings with extrmely brilliant colors.

Ramesses I, the founder of the 19th Dynasty and father of Sethos I, reigned for only 2 years.  The Original project must certainly have encisaged a larger tomb, but the King's premature death forced the architects to finish the construction as quickly as possible.

The burial chamber, which was probably originally meant to be the vestibule of a much larger hall, was left unfinished.  The tomb was discovered on October 11th 1817 by the Italian explorer Giovanni Belzoni, who found two large wooden statues of the Royal Ka inside; these are now in the British Museum.
